"Los Angeles" Wins Box-Office Battle

One of the most anticipated films of the early part of 2011 opened this weekend and despite taking a beating from critics, “Battle Los Angeles” got the raves that Hollywood cares about most–box-office dollars.  The film opened at the top of the box-office with $36 million in ticket sales, which was $9 million than industry analysts predicted.

In second was the animated feature “Rango” coming in with $23.1 million.  Despite drawing protests from parents groups due to various characters seen smoking during the film, the movie has made $68.7 million in its first 10 days in theaters.

Third place went to “Red Riding Hood,” with $14.1 million.  Fourth place was held by “The Adjustment Bureau” with $11.5 million.

Fifth place went to “Mars Needs Mom.” The animated feature took in a disappointing $6.8 million.  Many analysts predicted the movie would take in at least three times that much in its opening weekend.

Battle: Los Angeles was cliched and somewhat predictable. But, I still enjoyed it. It was a rousing good film and I look forward to seeing it again.

It was what it was billed to be: Independence Day meets Black Hawk Down. Very well done!

Why did the Sy-Fy channel have a movie by the same name on its Saturday night feature? I was very confused by this. I thought at first that the television version was the same as the movie version until I saw the cast listed. Are the movies from the same source material?
Oh by the way, I was not impressed with the televised version at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, it just looks like a lot of fun.

(Side not... Parents get over smoking in films. It happens in real life. If your that bothered by it don't show them classics... Like 101 Dalmations.)
