Director Matthew Vaughn is taking a page from director Christopher Nolan’s book when it comes to “X-Men: First Class.” Vaughn tells MTV News that the upcoming film is an origin story that will feel different from other origin stories we’ve seen before.
“This is going to be very different. What I’m doing no one has done in superhero films. It’s James Bond, it’s a political thriller and it’s an X-Men movie,” he says.
Vaughn came to the project with an open mind. Let’s face it: the direction taken in “X-Men: The Last Stand” was not a particularly welcome one, a fact that he recognized going in.
“It’s not like the other X-Men movies which I think is important. I think they need to sort of take on a new… you know, what ‘Batman Begins’ did for all those Batman movies? We bloody well need it. I’m not saying it’s going to be as good as Batman Begins, but it’s the same sort of attitude,” he said.

OK. “it’s not going to be as good as Batman Begins” does not sell the picture.
“It’s going to be BETTER than Batman Begins” sells the picture.
So, don’t give us the “it’s like Batman Begins”, because I can say, “Yes, X-Men: First Class is like Batman Begins. They’re both movies”
Don’t misunderstand. I want to see this one. I did not want to see Wolverine. Still don’t.

Nothing wrong with the direction Xmen 3 took. It was still true to the spirit of the books, perhaps a few more hiccups than the first two but just as fun.

It wasn’t the direction of X3 that was the problem, it was the execution of the story (literally and figuratively, IMO).
It was okay, but could have been so much better. I actually dared to hope for magic after seeing X2, and then Singer ran away from X3 to play with Superman, and as a result both movies got fracked up. Grumblefrack.

lol got to agree…doesn’t sound like much of a sell on the movie in the way he’s talking about it but I intend to see it anyway.

I’m probaly going to skip this until I hear some good rumblings about this after the first weekend. I’m nowhere near excited enough to spend money on this yet.
