Actor Michael Chiklis has signed on for a CBS comedy pilot.
Why do we report this, you ask.
Because Chiklis currently has a job on television on ABC’s “No Ordinary Family.” The news that Chiklis has signed on for another project may not be good news for the freshman drama. “Family” is considered to be on the bubble for renewal.
The multicamera project, from Warner Bros. TV and Conan O’Brien’s Conaco Prods., centers on a man who decides to take a more honest approach to life after a life-altering experience.

No Ordinary Family has been getting better... The kids are still annoying, but less so as it goes on.
Has anyone ever worked on two series at the same time? No, didn't think so.
But wouldn't it be a very bold story choice to continue "No Ordinary Family" into a second season in spite of, let's say, the father having been killed in such a way that it didn't affect the secrecy of the rest of the family's powers?
I wonder if they'd even consider doing that...
Yes it could mean the show is cancelled or they could be killing off his character, but there is also the possibility that he is ONLY doing the pilot for the comedy. Lots of shows have had different actors in pilot shows, ie Star Trek TOS.
I just read a story that said that Jamie Bamber was going to star in new Ronald Moore Pilot but as far as I know he's doing "Law & Order U.K."
I gave up on "No Ordinary Family" during the holiday break. When it came back on, I realized I didn't miss it.
I like this show. It's a great combination of comedy, SF and suspense. It would be a shame if it were dropped.
There's a term for it (I remember reading about it a few weeks before Reaper was cancelled), but it's not unheard of for actors in on-the-bubble shows to audition for other roles and get it as a second preference, so that if their current show gets cancelled they'll go to the other one, but if the current show continues then they'll keep doing that one.
@Jayson: This tends to be less of a problem with British shows in general and American shows with short runs. In 2010, Andrew Lincoln starred in one British show and one American ("Strike Back" and "The Walking Dead", respectively) and probably did a couple more things that year.
Bronze,
I figured it was something that but if I were Jamie Bamber I would run to Ronald Moore and not amble
"I gave up on “No Ordinary Family” during the holiday break. When it came back on, I realized I didn’t miss it."
Well, you are missing something, because the series really turned great AFTER the break.
"The kids are still annoying."
Really? I don't find them that annoying. In fact, the character that bothers me the most is Steph (the mother). She's supposed to be really smart, but she constantly acts so dimwitted.
NOF has gotten a lot better. I, unlike others, have no problem with the kids. I personally find them mildly charming... however, eveyone's opinions stink when their not yours, right?
Either way, if the series ends... no biggie. It was fun, but I can understand how some people were let down by the levity of it or dissappointed by some of the characterizations.
Such is the way of genre shows these days. We've been our own worst enemy.
I've been enduring NOF because my son liked it. Thankfully, he has gotten tired of it so I don't have to watch any more.
Maybe Chiklis will be on 2 series simultaneously, happens all the time.
I really think this new style of 10 shows, 4 month break, 6 show, 6 month break is making it very tough for people to stay connected. Even to a show they love.
