Over the years, a lot of books have been published and a lot of stories have been told about the pitch and development of Gene Roddenberry’s “Star Trek.”
Now, an on-line version of the original pitch Roddenberry used to try and sell the show to network executives is available on-line. You can read the 16-page document, including the famous selling point of the series as a “‘Wagon Train’ to the star” HERE.
The pitch includes the original name for the captain of the ship as well as rudimentary outlines for stories. Fans may recognize the stories that would later become episodes like “Charlie X,” “Shore Leave,” “A Piece of the Action,” “The Return of the Archons,” “The Savage Curtain,” “Mirror, Mirror” as well as the first pilot, “The Cage.”
