Editorial: "Star Trek" Musings

While everyone I meet is raving about Avatar, I only just recently caught up to the big Sci-Fi movies of last year. I’m speaking Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation, and District 9.

Mind you, I plan to go watch Avatar at the theater, maybe even at the I-Max, but for the three movies listed above I had to wait for the DVDs to be released. Now that I’ve seen them I can write about them, and I’ll start with the one for which I had the highest expectations.

Russo Review: "Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Dark Side"

Seth McFarlane brings his trademark humor to the Star Wars universe yet again, but like most sequels, the second trip to the well doesn’t bring back the results audiences were hoping for.

This time McFarlane pokes fun at what many fans of the Star Wars universe consider the Holy Grail of the franchise, The Empire Strikes Back. Perhaps it is the strength of Empire itself, or that tired feeling of been there, done that left over from “Blue Harvest”, regardless “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” doesn’t roll out the laughs like it should.

Ramis: "Something is Going to Happen" on "Ghostbuster 3"

Whether we like it or not, a third "Ghostbusters" movie is coming our way--possibly as early as next summer.

Harold Raymis recently told Heeb Magazine that he expects filming to begin this summer and that the movie could be in theaters for the summer of 2011.

"Avatar" Tops One Billion Worldwide

For the third week in the row, James Cameron's "Avatar" led the box-office. The film dropped just six percent from last week for a weekend haul of $68.3 million, pushing the film to $352 million in the U.S. and over a billion in ticket sales worldwide. The film's success is already generating talk of whether or not the film could break the box-office gross set by another Cameron film, "Titanic."

Whether or not it makes it, the film has entered the record books as one of the fastest films to break the $300 million mark. The other two are "The Dark Knight" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
