If you were wondering why you didn’t see a lot of deleted scenes with Heath Ledger as the Joker in your “Dark Knight” DVD or Blu-Ray, we may have an answers.
According to ShowBiz Spy, unnamed sources with “The Dark Knight Rises” say that the deleted scenes from “Dark Knight” and the use of CGI could have the Joker appear briefly in the upcoming sequel.
“The idea is to use these fragments of cut scenes and use CGI to have The Joker appear one last time,” the source says. “Chris wants some continuity between movies and for the franchise to pay tribute to Heath and his portrayal of the Joker. It would only be a fleeting moment in the movie and would only be included with the full consent of Heath’s family.”
Of course, the story is just a rumor at the moment. And based on statement’s Christopher Nolan has made in the past, this one should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

I think it could work. I had though they could have some silhouetted presence or playful shot of an arm in a purple coat or something suggesting that Joker is secretly making some things happen from Prison.
Much better than trying to re-cast him. Although it would have been nice to have been surprised by this, like "that scene" in Terminator: Salvation.
Um..."feature" and what you described as "briefly appearing"?
They're two different things.
In other words: Move along, people. There's nothing to see here.
