"The Zone" Shut Down

Director Roland Emmerich’s attempt at a lower-budget movie in a while has been shut down.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, production on “The Zone” has been shut down and the project has been canceled. The movie was to be a “found footage” project along the lines of “Cloverfield” or “Paramormal Activity” about an alien invasion.

The film was to feature a cast that would improv much of the film. The budget for the movie was around $5 million, relatively low for a film by the disaster-director.

“This is not a project (Emmerich) is pursuing at this time,” was the comment issued from the director’s camp.

Members of the production are at a loss as to why the film had its plug pulled, though rumors abound.
