Actor David Blue recently talked to TV Squad about his work as Eli on the second season of SyFy’s “Stargate Universe.” In the interview, Blue talks about the second season and what’s happening with his character and the series.
Here’s an excerpt:
Yeah, it seems like that with every episode there’s a major development that just pushes things in a whole new direction, and that’s one of the things I’m really enjoying about the show this year.
Yeah, and you haven’t seen anything yet. There’s a lot of big changes that you can’t even guess that are coming up pretty soon.Sounds good … So we saw Eli go through a pretty rough time recently when he visited his mother, and it looks like he’s really growing more and more as the challenges pile up for him. What’s it like getting the chance to take Eli in these new directions now?
It’s incredibly exciting for me. I had no idea where we were going to be heading in season 2, and now we’re shooting episode, like, 18, and it’s amazing to see how much he really does change this season. And a lot of it, I think, is attributed to the episode ‘Pathogen’ (season 2, episode 4) and how much leaving his past behind can really change him as a person and really help him grow and accept his situation instead of being the person who’s sitting there complaining and waiting for Rush (Robert Carlyle) or Young (Louis Ferreira) to save his life. He’s part of the solution now, and he really does start growing up and becoming his own man.

That’s good news… been looking for a change in the Eli character…thus far he’s been my least favorite character on the show.

I’m loving the new developments for Eli, and for the show in general. Lots of great twists and character driven turns. While it’s heartbreaking to watch Young slowly falling apart, it makes perfect sense for his character and is a great challenge for a goofball like Louis F. Chloe’s new superpowers are fascinating, especially since she spent so much of the first season flailing around for a way to be useful to the group. And Rush’s increasing paranoia and isolationism makes for fantastic dramatic tension.
Can’t wait to see what happens over the rest of the season and hoping for news of a third very soon.

SGU entire cast was on Canada AM this morning, and are on for a 1 hour special after SGI airs tonight on Space. The show is getting huge ratings in Canada and is up for 9 Gemini awars (our version of the Emmys). Why is it not catching on in the US?
