Love it or hate it, "Battlestar Galactica" was a huge hit for SciFi. So, when Ron Moore announced that he'd decided to wrap it up after four seasons, it's easy to see why the network would want to continue to offer viewers the chance to revisit the universe.
That led to "Caprica," a prequel series looking at the creation of the Cylons some seventy-odd years before the events of "Battlestar Galactica."
A couple of interesting tid-bits from the alphabet network today.
The first is that ABC has set the return date for "V" and it's later than we initially expected. The sophomore season will kick off on Tuesday, January 4 at 9 p.m. EST.
The sets are built, some of the actors are waiting and the director is ready.
After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, "The Hobbit" has been given the official go-ahead to begin production.
Last week, news broke on an upcoming episode of "The Sarah Jane Adventures," the long-running franchise "Doctor Who" would do away with a limit to the number of times the Doctor could regenerate, thus potentially allowing the series to run forever (or at least until they bring Pip & Jane Baker(*) back as writers). Last Friday, the CW's long-running series Smallville hit a major milestone, airing its 200th episode. At the encouragement of a Slice of SciFi reader, I tuned in for the episode, curious to see what the series still had to offer after 200 hours of watching Clark Kent slowly evolve into the Man of Steel.
The combination of insane stunts and 3-D was box-office gold over the weekend as "Jack-Ass 3-D" took in $50.0 million and secured the top spot at the box office. Even more impressive was that the opening was a fall and October record. (Given how much of the film was previewed on-line, it's hard to believe there was anything left as a surprise once audiences got to theaters...)
CBS is developing a new TV series based on the Harper Connelly series of books by Charlaine Harris. Like the first novel in the series, the show will be called Grave Sight.
