Stone Joins "Spider-Man"

emmastoneSpider-Man has his leading lady.

And, as we previously reported, it’s actress Emma Stone.

Confusion about which character Stone might play rose earlier this week when several sites (including this one) reported that Stone was in the running to play M.J. Part of the reason for the confusion is that with her red hair, Stone seemed a natural to play the red-headed M.J.

Instead, she’ll play Gwen Stacy, who in the comics was a blonde. No word yet on what color her hair will be in the film.

Stone emerged from a list of high-profile, up and coming young Hollywood actresses for this high profile role. Stone will take over for Bryce Taylor Howard, who played Stacy in “Spider-Man 3.”

“It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress,” Columbia Pictures President Matt Tolmach said. “She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill.”

Stone can currently be seen in the comedy “Easy A” and was part of the cast of “Zombieland.”
