The 2010 Hugo Awardswere handed out last weekend in Australia and included a rare tie in the Best Novel category. The double honor went to China Miéville for The City & The City and Paolo Bacigalupi for The Windup Girl, while Doctor Who and Moon also picked up rocket trophies.

"Night of the Living Trekkies" -- A Slice of SciFi Book Review

Ever since zombies invaded the pages of Jane Austen with great success, publishers have been searching for the next great mash-up novel. Earlier this year, we got "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter," a funny take on the historical biography that asked what if Honest Abe was really a vampire slayer? On the other end of the spectrum is the Hugo-nominated zombie/steampunk novel "Boneshaker."

And then, somewhere in the middle is the mash-up, "Night of the Living Trekkies." The story is a satire, bringing the horror of the zombie apocalypse to a "Star Trek" convention.

"The American" Tops the Box Office

With many Americans celebrating the end of summer, it appears that going to the movie wasn't high on the agenda.

The top box-office earner was George Clooney's new feature, "The American," taking in $16.3 million over the weekend. It was followed closely by "Machete," taking in $14 million.

Author Neil Gaiman's popular graphic novel, "The Sandman" is being developed as a potential television series according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Brothers is currently pursuing the rights to the graphic novels to develop it for television and according to the Reporter, former "Supernatural" producer Eric Kripke tops the list for producer and show runner.

Bauer: "True Blood" Finale Will Kick B***

Actress Kristin Bauer says that her True Blood character Pam is going to "kick butt" in the upcoming finale.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Bauer promised that fans will enjoy the last episode of the season.

"It's going to be exciting," she said. "It's going to be intense. And the vampire world has a major shift."

"Trek" Theme Leads Voting for Wake-Up Call on Final Shuttle Mission

The first shuttle program got its name from the original "Star Trek" so it's only fitting that the final shuttle mission see its crew wake up to the theme from the classic series.

NASA is holding an on-line poll to pick music as a wake-up call for the astronauts on the final shuttle mission. And leading the way is the original (and best) "Star Trek" theme by Alexander Courage.

The music leads the voting with close to400,000 votes so far. The theme from "Star Wars" is also in the mix, but only getting 12,661 at the time.
