McCoy In Running for "Hobbit" Role

British actor Sylvester McCoy, best known for his work as the seventh Doctor on “Doctor Who,” is currently in discussions to play a hobbit in the upcoming big-screen version of “The Hobbit.” But it may not be the role he was originally linked to.

Earlier this year, McCoy was rumored to be in the running to play the lead character, Bilbo.

In an interview, the actor tells the “Dunoon Observer” that isn’t the case but that his role will still be a large one in the film.

“I am being cast in The Hobbit,” he said. “We’re currently in negotiations — there are two of us under consideration. It’s not the Bilbo role, but could be bigger.”

The One Ring speculates that he could be referring to Radagast the Brown, a wizard colleague of Gandalf’s who is rumored to have an expanded role in the adaptation.

McCoy is waaaay too old to play Bilbo, so it must be some other character. Perhaps Thorin?
