The upcoming series of “Doctor Who” will be split into two halves.
Producer Stephen Moffat broke the news this past weekend at the Edinburgh TV Festival, saying “The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!”
The BBC confirmed the news and issued the following statement. “”The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.”
Moffat also said that as of now, the Daleks will not feature in the upcoming series. Moffat said there are still a few scripts that haven’t been completed but it’s unlikely the Doctor’s most famous adversaries will return.
“There will be a Dalek story when we’ve got a good idea for a Dalek story. [When that happens], there will be lots of different kinds of Daleks,” he said.

Sounds great! Especially the no Daleks in series 6 bit. They have been used WAY too much in new who, and I am very happy to get a least one series without them.
They're splitting a 13-episode season? That's... odd. Maybe they just don't want to have to deal with that annual music competition kerfluffle?
Let's see, we're going to frustrate you with a cliff-hanger, then we're going to further frustrate you with several months waiting... Did they learn this from Syfy?
Splitting an already too-short season doesn't seem all that exciting to me. Frustrating would be a better word to describe that.
How about making 26 episodes, and splitting them, ?
I want more Doctor Who!!
In the uk, A series runs only 6 eps.
In the UK, MOST series run 6 episodes a year. Doctor Who (as well as Torchwood and Sarah Jane) have had roughly 13 episodes per year.
As frustrating as this is going to be (the seasons are way too short IMHO as it is) I am looking forward to the next season of Who. Moffat won't disappoint, I have no doubt.
Quality! Not Quantity!
I would be really happy to see a split if the break between season six if it means there will not be a ten month break between series six and seven.
A series without the Delaks? That'd be really really nice
I wonder if the DVD release will be a full series plus the Christmas special or split the way of BSG.
