“Expendables” Tops Box Office

August 16, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

The long anticipated team-up of some of action genre’s biggest icons proved to be gold at the box-office this weekend as “The Expendables” took the top spot.  The movie took in $35 million in its debut, beating out the new Julia Roberts movie, “Eat ,Pray, Love.”

The movie, based on the best-selling novel, was second with $23.7 million.

The news wasn’t as good for “Scott Pilgrim vs the World” which had a solid buzz from ComicCon but opened in fifth with $10.5 million.

Last week’s top movie, “The Other Guys” dropped to third and “Inception” continued its solid run in fourth.

Looks like the old guys can still put them in the seats.

Have no interest in The Expendables, but Scott Pilgrim was a breath of fresh air in movies this weekend. I have little use for the standard quo flicks ricght now.

I enjoyed The Expendables. It was a mindless fun action flick of the past and features Charisma Carpenter!

I’m looking forward to seeing Scott Pilgrim.

I did not enjoy The Other Guys… It started great, but the Will Ferrell jokes got stupider and stupider and I couldn’t take it anymore. Its a shame because the rest of the cast were really funny, particularly Micheal Keaton’s part-time job in the movie!

If only they could cut out Will Ferrell completely…

I do not like Will Ferrell anyway, only like two movies he was in, but had high hopes for this film. Unfortunately he proves again that he is best only in small doses.
