Joe Haldeman’s award-winning novel “The Forever War” is headed for the big-screen, under the direction of Ridley Scott. But before the production on this 3-D movie can get underway, the project needs a script.
Many of us who have read the original novel were concerned about who might adapt the classic novel.
According to Haldeman, the screenplay is being written by David Webb Peoples, who also gave us the scripts for “12 Monkeys,” “Ladyhawke” and “Blade Runner.”
So, it looks like the screenplay is in good hands.
“I’m not among the people who assume that the novel will be desecrated by the movie. It will be interesting to see somebody else’s take on it,” Haldeman blogs. “Incidentally, I wasn’t asked to submit a screenplay, though I’ve been a member of the Writers Guild for almost thirty years and have solid production credits. No surprise. They don’t want the book’s author saying “Hold it! I wrote the book, and that’s not the way it goes.””
If you haven’t read the original “The Forever War,” you should head out to your local library or bookstore and pick up a copy. And if you have, why not give it a re-read before the film hits theaters?

Aside from the 3D thing (why, Why, WHY?!), this could go either way.
