“Inception” Remains On Top After 3 Weeks

August 2, 2010 By Sam Sloan 5 Comments

Claiming another $27-plus million at the box office Christopher Nolan’s scifi adventure “Inception,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio continues as the nation’s number one film.

Over the past 3 weeks the movie has come up against everything from other scifi and genre-type films like Nicolas Cage’s”The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” 3-D kids movies such as”Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore” and even box office hit-maker Zak Efron but none could dethrone the movie that takes people’s dreams and turns them into one of movie making’s most exciting and intelligent films in a long time.

“Inception” has now topped the benchmark $300 million in the United States and is also a huge international hit grossing more that $150 million since its release in various overseas markets.

Can everyone please go see this movie at least twice a week until it’s topped Avatar’s box office record? It would do a lot to fix my opinion of humanity’s taste in entertainment.

I can’t wait to see it on bluray but I won’t set foot in a theater to see it.

If I wasn’t flat broke (like having to accept food donations from family members, hoping my internet doesn’t get shut of before my next paycheck broke) I’d be going out to see it again my next day off.

I’ve seen it three (yes…THREE) times and have enjoyed it each time. There are so many little throw back and throw forwards…and character insights. It’s a blast.
I wish this movie would blow Avatar out of the water. Yes, it is a technological feat in movie-making. But as much as I liked Avatar, Inception is far and away the better all-around movie: Writing, direction, acting, production…oh, and did I say WRITING?
(BTW, this is the reason why “Hurt Locker” was a better movie. The writing was better, and there was an actual connection with the characters. Avatar was Pretty. That’s about it.)
Anyway…I have a tip for those who want to avoid the theatre: If you can, go to the first showing of the day.
Me? I work 4 10s so I get Fridays off (don’t hate!). When I go to the movies, I go to the First showing on Friday morning.
    1. No kids.
    2. Adults who really want to see the movie.
    3. Clean theatre.
    4. NO KIDS.

    I don’t have a Home Theatre set-up.
If you roll like that? I’m not mad at you. But there’s NOTHING like IMAX. Your house isn’t that big.
And if it is? Again, I’m not mad at you.
I like to see a movie like Inception at least 1 time at the theatre because it’s not going to be the same on DVD on my 12 year old TV.
    : )

It would do a lot to fix my opinion of humanity’s taste if people would stop whining about Avatar.
