Moffat: Holmes Better Character Than the Doctor
Steven Moffat loves the Doctor. But there’s one literary icon he loves more: Sherlcok Holmes.
Moffat is the producer of a new series that moves the immortal detective into moderna times and debuted last weekend to huge ratings in the UK. He’s also the producer behind the current run of “Doctor Who.”
But Moffat says Holmes is “the single best fiction character ever created.”
“They’re also sort of opposites. I always think of the doctor oddly enough, strangely enough, as more human. He’s like an angel who aspires to be human, whereas Sherlock Holmes is a human being who aspires to be a god. He’s rejecting the very things that the Doctor embraces. But they sort of meet in the middle, ’cause neither succeeds in their aspirations,” he said.

It would be nice if there was some crossover, I’d like to see the Doctor actually save the day though logic and reasoning more and perhaps a bit of kung-fu rather than this tendency to flop out his magic wand whenever its convenient.
The Eleventh Doctor has been much better in that regard, figuring out how to solve a problem rather than just sonicing something.
