Your heart will go on and on, but this time it will be in 3-D.
To remember the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the Oscar winning movie “Titanic” will be re-released and in 3-D.
James Cameron hinted that he was thinking about upgrading his older films to 3-D after “Avatar” broke the bank at the box-office, but this is the first confirmation we’ve had that it was actually happening.
The new 3-D version will open in April 2012.
This begs the question of when we’ll get a 3-D version of “The Abyss.”

i hate HATE 3D..... i routinely vote with my wallet for standard 2D films... but The Abyss in 3D.. that would have to be amazing.
All I have to say is why.
In what way is this "upgrading" there Jimmy boy?
Does anyone know a way to determine if a movie was actually filmed in 3-D vs converted to 3-D? The 3-D Clash of the Titans was a huge mess that the 3-D effect introduced.
I'm not one of you guys who immediately hates everything 3-D, before even looking at the story. However, I do agree this is beyond terrible.
True story:
we watched the incredible stink that is Titanic as part of a pact with relatives who were/are enamored with the movie.
We agreed to watch Titanic, and they agreed to watch The Ghost and the Darkness.
I still carry emotional and cognitive scars from the experience.
@EJ, that... doesn't seem quite fair. Titanic is a longer movie, and I never had the shakes when considering watching The Ghost and The Darkness.
I've seen The Ghost and the Darkness, more than once, actually. I have yet to see Titanic, have no intention of ever seeing it, and to my knowledge, me and TD-0013 will likely go down as the last people on the planet who have not seen it. That's my plan, anyway.
As for 3-D-izing Titanic, Cameron could be having box office remorse, at having more digital toys to play with on Avatar than Titanic, and now he wants to add the 3D experience to bump the sinking boat back into the #1 slot. Or he's got stock in one of the companies that makes those new 3D tv sets, and he wants to boost sales. If that's not his plan, I got nothin'
Yeah, it was not fair, especially since it was 6+ months before they kept their end of the bargain.
The Ghost and the Darkness is in my Laserdisc collection. There is still something near awesome pulling those large platters out of their sleeves and loading them in the player. Sure, Blu-Ray may be cool (meh!), but watching one of those movies is always a treat, in no small part due to the technology.
Hey, I'm all for it as long as somebody shoots Jack first.
SPOILER ALERT: The boat sinks.
