It may not exactly qualify as science-fiction but fans of David Tennant and Patrick Stewart may want to set their recording devices this evening. PBS stations around the United States are scheduled to air a filmed-for-television version of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s modern dress version of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”
You’ll have to consult your local listings to find the time and station its airing near you.
Fans of “Doctor Who” may recall that Tennant played the lead role of Hamlet during the recently concluded season of specials for the hit series.
And if you missed the airing on PBS on Wednesday, don’t despair. The special is coming to DVD and Blu Ray from BBC America next Tuesday.

Well crap, wish we had a little earlier warning on this one, I had heard about them acting in this one together but hadn't been able to find anything on it... may have to make it a rental I guess.
I got to see it on a 50 foot screen at a theatre in Jackson, MI tonight.
And all I can say is WOW.
I'm tempted to say that the acting Tennant did here was better than anything he ever did on DW. But it was just...
Wow. The sheer brilliance of it all had me speechless.
For the folks who missed the Wednesday night airing (like me), it looks like there's another broadcast over the weekend. For folks in the Phoenix area, KAET PBS Channel 8 is airing it on May 2nd at 1:30am... check your local listings.
If you haven't had an opportunity to see this, it's is amazing. IMO, they interpret Hamlet just a little off center and works, completely. Tennant is amazing (of course), but Stewart's Claudius is downright basterdly. I saw a production of Hamlet last weekend at the Shakespeare Festival near me and was disappointed after coming off the BBC's production.
It's coming to DVD... It's coming to DVD... It's coming to DVD...
If I miss it, I can Netflix...*whew*
FYI:
The PBS' Greatest Performances site has now uploaded Hamlet so fans in the USA can watch online here: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/episodes/hamlet/watch-the-film/980/
Woo hoo!
