"Doctor Who" A Hit on BBC America

The Matt Smith era is a hit.

The new season was one of the top ranked shows in the UK for “The Eleventh Hour” and is now a hit in the U.S. for BBC America.

According to BBC America, the first episode of the new era averaged 1.2 million total viewers, making it the network’s most-watched telecast ever.

The 9 p.m. telecast also set a network record in the adults 25-54 demo, drawing a 0.9 rating, which made it No. 2 in its time slot among ad-supported cable networks.

The previous record was set by the U.S. premiere of “Doctor Who: The End of Time,” which averaged 1 million viewers and a 0.8 in the demo on Jan. 2.

BBC America said that “Doctor Who” is also currently the No. 1 TV series in the iTunes store.
