Actor Scott Bakula is in high demand these days. He’s part of the ensemble cast of TNT’s hit series “Men of a Certain Age” and he’ll reprise his role as Chuck’s father later this season on the NBC spy dramedy.
And while he’s happy with the work, he says he’s still ready to jump back into the role of Dr. Sam Beckett should the opportunity present itself.
However, Bakula tells TV Guide that may not happen any time soon.
“It’s talked about all the time,” Bakula says. “But the ownership [of the show] is a very difficult situation. The rights are all kind of complicated and mixed up. It’s been a very strange road with that property, with the network and the studio, and the studio that bought the rights – they pulled it and sold it to somebody else. Don Bellasario wants to do it. He loves it, and they were close to doing a TV series of it in Australia, and all the energy went into that for a while. And I guess that never happened, as far as I know, so it’s turned back to ‘Let’s do a movie…’ Dean [Stockwell] and I always say ‘We’d love to do it,’ and Don would love to do it, but nobody’s knocked on our door.”
As for exactly what his role will be on “Chuck” this year, Bakula says he’s sworn to secrecy.
“I can’t say anything right now, except I’ll be doing two episodes. And no other guest stars this time, just me. I can tell you that!” he said.
