The clock is ticking for CTU agent Jack Bauer–and not just to stop a group of terrorists from nuking New York City on the current season of the show.
According to reports, Fox has close to making this season the final one for Bauer and company with the series potentially heading for the big-screen.
But it appears that there may still be some life left in the eight-year-old series. According to EW’s Michael Ausiello, 20th Century Fox has been shopping the series to other networks should Fox choose not to pick up a ninth season. And right now the leading candidate for Jack Bauer is NBC.
“There’s definitely some interest,” says an insider close to the talks.
A move to NBC would delay production on proposed movie because show producers insist that it would be impossible to create new episode and a feature film version of the show.
The show, which won an Emmy for its fifth season, has been on a bit of a ratings downslide this year. Fox is reportedly considering putting it out to pasture in an attempt to capitalize on the primetime real estate after its hit series “House.”

I recorded the three episodes Michael Shanks guested on a couple years ago and fast-forwarded to his parts. (I mean, come on, the man spent most of his time in his underwear with Kari Matchett. I'm not above enjoying a little eye candy.) Other than that, I couldn't care less about this show. Well, no, that's not true. If it wasn't on Monday nights, Fox would probably schedule yet another thing I want to watch on Mondays and my poor DVR would just give up and implode.
I have to see that as a person who's watched every season of '24', this season has been DREADFUL. It can TRULY end now... let Jack have his happy ending and be done with it... AT LEAST until the movie.
