One of the big selling points of the Nintendo Wii is its motion controller.
Sony is preparing to offer its answer to the Wii later this year with its own set of motion controllers, the Move.
The Move system was unveiled yesterday at the annual Game Developers Conference.
he system, with prices starting at less than $100 including a game, enables players to physically control on-screen characters using body movements à la Nintendo Wii’s motion-sensitive controller.
The Move controller is a black, wand-like motion remote with a lighted ball on top; a subcontroller, an additional accessory, is analogous to a Wii nunchuk, with a joystick. And the included PlayStation Eye camera lets games use a player’s voice and likeness.
Sony’s Peter Dille credited Nintendo with doing a “great job in introducing motion gaming to the masses” but called Move “revolutionary and a step ahead of anything in the marketplace. We’d like to think this is the next generation of motion gaming.”
Sony has more than 20 Move-compatible games in development; nearly three dozen third-party publishers including Activision, EA, Sega and Ubisoft announced support. EA Sports’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, out in June, will support Move.
The Move system will go on sale later this year.

The Move? The Move??? Seriously? I didn’t think Sony could come up with a worse name for this thing than “JEM” or “ARC”. Looks like I was wrong.
