There’s the old adage that when it comes to an Academy Award, it’s an honor just to be nominated.
Director James Cameron, who is up for the award this year, says he feels that way and that he doesn’t want an Oscar for his work on “Avatar.”
Talking to interviewer Charlie Rose, Cameron noted he already has one that he won for “Titanic” and that he’d rather see his ex-wife Katherine Bigalow get the award for “The Hurt Locker.”
“That would be my fantasy outcome, absolutely,” said Cameron.
Of course, if he doesn’t want the award, why didn’t he withdraw his name from consideration for the nod?
Speaking of “Avatar” Cameron has said that while a lot of people in Hollywood want a sequel, that a second installment isn’t a done deal
“Got some deal hurdles to get over,” he tells MTV News. “It’s never really been properly worked out, let’s put it that way.”
“I’m thinking about what the next feature will be, and another Avatar is a strong possiblity,” Cameron added.

Look for him to the Sally Fields thing when he gets it.

God, sloppy reporting, sloppy editing, sloppy research. Cameron has said he DOES want Best Picture for Avatar but that BIGELOW should get Best DIRECTOR.
He's just ahead of the curve because he knows that sci-fi films don't win Oscars unless its for sound or special effects.
