Audiences were in the mood for a little romance this Valentine’s Day weekend as the new romantic comedy named after the holiday took the top spot at the box-office.
The newly opening “Valentine’s Day” took in $52.4 million over the weekend, powering it to the largest President’s Day weekend opening ever.
The film had a strong opening against a solid field that included two anticipated genre films.
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” opened in second with $31.1 million and was followed by the long delayed release of “The Wolfman” with $30.6 million.
“Avatar” collected another $22 million for fourth place on the weekend.
