Abrams, Cruise Return To "Mission: Impossible"

Tom Cruise and director J.J. Abrams work on “Mission: Impossible III” won over critics, fans and the box-office.  So it only makes sense that Cruise and Abrams would team up again for another installment in the franchise.

News broke yesterday that the duo will do just that, signing on for a fourth “Mission: Impossible” film.  This time they will serve as producers for the new installment that Paramount would like to have in theaters by May of 2011.

Paramount Pictures Chairman Brad Grey said, “Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to relaunch this legendary franchise.”

At present no director has been chosen for the assignment, and with that release date, it is unlikely that Abrams will be able to helm it as well as the “Star Trek” sequel and also fulfil his commitments to his new TV series “Undercovers”.

“M:I:IV” will be based on a story idea by Cruise and Abrams, and a script by Abrams’ former “Alias” colleagues Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who recently oversaw the US version of “Life on Mars”.
