“Dear John” Beats “Avatar”
“Avatar”’s reign at the top of the box office came to an end over the weekend as “Dear John” took in $32.4 million in ticket sales.
“Avatar” was second with $23.6 million, raising its domestic total to $630.1 million.
Third place went to another new opener, “From Paris With Love.” The drop from second to third was steep with the newly opened thriller taking in just $8.1 million.
The top five was rounded out by Mel Gibson’s “The Edge of Darkness” in fourth and “The Tooth Fairy” in fifth.
