CW Orders “La Femme Nikita” Reboot Pilot

January 28, 2010 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV News

Everything old is new again in Hollywood. The CW has ordered a pilot for a reboot of the USA series, “La Femme Nikita.”

McG (”Terminator: Salvation,” “Human Target”) will executive produce the “Nikita” remake, along with Peter Johnson from Warner Bros. and Wonderland Prods.

The French film “Nikita,” about a young criminal who’s trained to be an assassin by a top-secret government organization, was originally made by Luc Besson in 1990, then was remade in 1993 as a U.S. film starring Bridget Fonda called “Point of No Return.” The story was then launched as a TV series in 1991 on USA Network.

“Nikita” will give The CW its first non-supernatural action-drama. In this version, Nikita goes rogue and a new assassin is trained to replace her.

“Nikita goes rogue and a new assassin is trained to replace her.”

So, doesn’t that mean it’s not a reboot, but rather a continuation of sorts? Or am I not understanding that sentence?

Yeah, Kyle. I caught that too.
We pick up the story with Nikita going rogue, so a new kid is brought in…to…continue in her place.
So, this is a reboot, how?

Will they ever run out of shows to reboot? How about a live-action version of Supercar?

Why don’t they reboot Sesamestreet while they are at it. Or the economy. . . . .
    Bored Now!
Is there any original thought left at all in Hollywood?

Also, talk about a continuity goof:

“[the film] was originally made by Luc Besson in 1990, then was remade in 1993 as a U.S. film starring Bridget Fonda called “Point of No Return.” The story was then launched as a TV series in 1991 on USA Network.”

Made 1990, then remade in 1993, then launched in 1991.

Can they now timetravel at SciFi? Or are they unable to write a coherent story?

AS Bruce Willis was noted as saying,
    :Welcome to the party pal!”

I have been saying this how long now? But do you kids listen to me??? Noooooooo.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for kick-ass chicks on my flickery screen, but they’re going to have be really careful for a new Nikita to be successful. There’s a fine line between early Alias and the attempted reboot of Bionic Woman.

If these kids in The Industry would start reading some m*****frackin’ BOOKS instead of rehashing TV shows and movies that they saw when they were little kids, then maybe we wouldn’t be seeing a “reboot” of LFN…which I liked a lot, BTW.

What’s next? Another go at “Tank Girl”??

Is the replacement assassin being trained to replace Nikita, or to hunt her down to prevent her from causing her former masters more trouble?

I’m not thrilled with the idea of calling it a reboot, but at least they’re starting out with the idea of a new direction instead of a flat-out boring remake. It could still be boring, or a waste of time, but I’ll watch the first couple episodes, if it gets that far. Full disclosure: I got bored with the original series after the first season, despite having a handful of (male) friends who were huge Peta Wilson admirers… I think she was the only reason they kept watching, honestly :)

I loved the original La Femme Nikita when it first came out. I remember liking the Bridget Fonda version too except in Oz it was just called “The Assassin”.

“…they’re going to have be really careful for a new Nikita to be successful. There’s a fine line between early Alias and the attempted reboot of Bionic Woman…”

except that Alias is pretty well a carbon copy of the U.S. version of la femme nikita. Don’t get me wrong, i’m watching alias at the moment and really enjoying it. however it always seems to be very very very very similar to nikita

I’m was and still is a LeFemme fan. When and if they bring it back, they will probably have the same cult following. Although, Michael Samuel (Roy Dupuis) will be hard to replace.

LFN was much more of a success than the TPTB are making it sound, it had a huge cult following! I know I was there! I hope they aren’t bringing this chick in as the original Nikita… I’d rather see Peta and Roy on the show. I bet this is going to end up looking like Alias, designed to attract teenage to 39 year males and use too much special effects and violence to sell advertising time, because after all the tv market is all about this age group unfortunately. I see it as a big mistake if they don’t use the original cast of the series and make it an Alias ripoff, instead of the wonderful brain f^^k the original series was.

I would very much like them to continue the show where they left off in original series (season 5) and also, bring in the same cast if at all possible because original was the best so continued version can not be too bad; However starting off with something new would be more than likely an utter disappointment - specially to all hard-core LFN fans here… And yea, last but not the least, Michael should be back in the game who was out of section when the the original show ended! LFN can’t be the same without him; it is just as much about Michael as much it is about Nikita………. gals please vote for him :)
