Sections of the last couple of “Harry Potter” films have been rendered in 3-D for their IMAX showings, so it was probably only a matter of time until Warner Brothers decided to wave their magic wands across an entire “Harry Potter” movie and have it go 3-D.
According to Rueters, the next two installments of the popular franchise will be 3-D.
Warner Brothers has decided to convert the two halves of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” to 3-D. The studio will reportedly spent $5 million to upgrade the film to 3-D and then another $5 million on the glasses needed for audiences to experience the 3-D film.
The studio is very gung-ho on 3-D right now, with the success of “Avatar.” Earlier this week, we reported that Warner was considering a 3-D version of the upcoming “Clash of the Titans.”
Andrew McDonald says
I don’t really care since I won’t be seeing it in the theater anyway and can watch it in good old 2D when it comes out on bluray.
But just because Avatar was a big hit doesn’t mean every movie should be in 3D.

I don’t care. The FIRST Harry Potter in the movies I ever saw was ‘The Half Blood Prince’… it was terrrible. It was the most expensive half a movie ticket I ever bought on IMAX. No. I’ll catch them on DVD/Netflix as I’ve done the rest going forward. I just don’t care enough to see it in 3D.
Sofie Bird says
I wish Hollywood would let go of the gimmick. Avatar’s success was not about 3D, it was brilliant marketing and intricate world-building supported by CGI.
3D makes a movie less immersive and less enjoyable: the extra work your eyes and brain are forced to do to render the 3D distracts rather than enhances, and it never appears “real” anyway. It’s far more ‘realistic’ if you just get out of the way.
