If you’re a fan of Fox’s “Fringe,” our next story will make the long hiatus the show takes after next week’s episode a bit more unbearable.
Assuming, of course, that you read it. There are some SPOILERs ahead for the final episodes of the season. If you don’t want to know, please stop reading now…
According to EW’s Michael Ausiello, the moment fans have dreamed of since we first saw William Bell last season will happen in the season finale. Walter Bishop and William Bell will have a confrontation in the two-part finale, set to air in May.
“William and Walter will finally face off in the finale,” confirms consulting producer Akiva Goldsman, who is directing the two-part episode (written by exec producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman). “These [characters] have so much that they’re bringing to bear. And Leonard and John are two fantastic actors.”
That much anticipated showdown is just one of several payoffs that fans can expect in the final run of episodes this year.
“We’re going to be looking very closely into Peter’s [Joshua Jackson] identity, Walter’s choices in the past, and Walter’s choices in the future,” reveals Goldsman. “And by the end of the season, we’re all going over to the other side.
“We’re trying to do the last two episodes as a singular event, a little bit more movie-like,” Goldman continues. “It’s really one big story. We’re approaching it like a mini-feature. It’ll have a singular narrative drive.”
Goldman went on to say that while there will be a cliffhanger for the season, that should Fox choose not to pick up another season of the show, the season finale will offer a bit of closure on the season storyline for fans.
“Good stories typically have sufficient closure, but also have the promise of continuing — even if you’re not watching them continue,” he says. “So, short of killing somebody — which we’re not doing — we’re just treating it like the end of a movement, not the end of a symphony.”

Given the average quality of writing which this show produces, I cannot wait to see two actors as talented as Nemoy and Nobel get to face off
