I thought the pilot of Caprica was very good. I saw it at Hulu a couple of weeks ago. I liked it up until the cylon appeared — that was dumb. An android need not look like a cylon nowadays. Only because they are trying to tie everything to Battlestar — which is the writers huge mistake. Battlestar was never that good and not worth ruining a series for. Eric Stolz’s character is fascinating – I suppose it is too much to ask for the series to be about him and to forget BSG.
The cutesy references to Judaism are annoying as well as dumb — why not just call them Jews? Or just delete the religious stuff. Again, tying it to Battlestar is the death knell for the storyline. Adama is boooorrrring after so much BSG. That has all been done. Esai Morales does nothing to make that situation any better.
The sets, like the house of the doctors Greystone and the little butler droid and other aspects of the house a la Gates are well done.
The less of the military, the better. Why not focus on the geniuses – father and daughter – for once?? The rest of the cast, with the possible exception of Zoe’s best friend, is dreary by comparison.

NJ: Um, it’s a prequel to BSG, so how can they divorce themselves from it? Honestly, your argument makes as much sense as going “You know, CSI would be so much better if they didn’t spend so much time solving crimes.”
