Sony Pictures has pulled out the director’s seat for Mark Webb.
Webb, who directed this year’s “(500) Days of Summer” will direct the reboot of the franchise, according to the Associated Press.
Webb said in a statement he was not taking over the series from Raimi but instead wanted the “opportunity for ideas, stories and histories that will add a new dimension, canvas and creative voice to Spider-Man.”
Webb will begin to assemble a creative team and a script for the next installment, which is due to open in 2012.

I liked the first movie, the second not so much and loved the third one much to my great surprise. However given the sucess of "Iron Man" & "The Hulk" I wouldn't mind seeing Marvel Studios take on this one. Also, maybe why they are at it they could erase "The Fantastic Four" films and reboot them as well.
A reboot is not required and unless this thing breaks new ground in spectacular fashion, it will not succeed commercially. It will be like the rebooted Hulk which did fair business but not good enough business to get a sequel.
