Downey, Jr. Leaves "Cowboys & Aliens"

Actor Robert Downey, Jr. has officially left the upcoming project “Cowboys & Aliens,” Entertainment Weekly reports.

Downey has a scheduling conflict with a potential “Sherlock Holmes” follow-up that, according to sources, Warner Brothers is eager to get into production and into theaters. The new big-screen version of the consulting detective has taken in close to $200 million in the United States and over $300 million world-wide.

Downey’s leaving “Cowboys” has been rumored for weeks now, but was only officially confirmed this week.

Downey would have worked on the project with “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau.
