"Dune" Remake Finds A New Director

Paramount’s remake of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” has found a new director, according to Entertainment Weekly.

EW reports that “Taken” director Pierre Morel will take over the project. Peter Berg was set to direct the third adaptation of the best-selling novel, but left the project in October.

Morel will oversee the project and will hire a new writer to polish the screenplay by Josh Zetumer. According to EW, Morel wants the script to be “faithful” to the original novel.

Hopefully this one will be more faithful to the book. The first movie was almost unwatchable and the SciFi channel's remake was slightly better. There is a reason the book sold so many copies (and continues to do so) and remains a classic...THE STORY! Don't ef it up to make a movie. I know some changes are necessary, but hopefully the screenwriters have at least read the book! Fingers crossed.

I don't think a movie is the right format for "Dune." It's too long and complicated for a single three hour movie. Another miniseries could do it justice. It would need a much bigger budget than the SciFi version, which was well intentioned but limited by budget. I would like to see an HBO or BBC take on it.

Hopefully I'm wrong though and he does a great job...
