For the third week in the row, James Cameron’s “Avatar” led the box-office. The film dropped just six percent from last week for a weekend haul of $68.3 million, pushing the film to $352 million in the U.S. and over a billion in ticket sales worldwide. The film’s success is already generating talk of whether or not the film could break the box-office gross set by another Cameron film, “Titanic.”
Whether or not it makes it, the film has entered the record books as one of the fastest films to break the $300 million mark. The other two are “The Dark Knight” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”
In second place was the new version of “Sherlock Holmes” with a take of $38.4 million and $140.7 million overall.
Third place was held by “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.”
Fourth place went to the comedy “It’s Complicated.”
