Joining such genre greats as “Star Wars,” “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial” and “Alien” in the National Film Register is the 1957 film, “The Incredible Shrinking Man.”
Based on the novella by Richard Matheson (who wrote the screenplay), the film follows a man who is slowly shrinking away into nothingness.
The film was one of 25 movies that were announced as inductees into the National Film Register.

No Star Trek (1979) or even Wrath of Khan. Should have at least one.
No Abyss (James Cameron) which revolutionized under-water film-making.
Batman (1989)
Superman
These are probably too new to be added:
The Matrix
The Lord of The Rings
The Dark Knight
Titanic
