J.J. Abrams — A Hollywood Reporter Interview

December 28, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: Interviews

J.J. Abrams’ career is red-hot.  Everything he touches seems to turn to gold.

Abrams is producer of several hit tv series, producer on a variety of successful films and directed the big-screen revival of “Star Trek.”

The Hollywood Reporter has an interview with Abrams, looking at “Trek” and his multitude of other projects currently in production or simmering on the stove.

Here’s a sample:

The Hollywood Reporter: Was there any part of making “Star Trek” that felt personal?

J.J. Abrams: Quite a bit. It’s a story about family and friendship and loyalty and finding your place and your way and being insecure about any number of things. And that is a universal idea that doesn’t need to take place in space; it can take place anywhere — and that idea feels very personal. I found myself surprisingly connected to a character called James T. Kirk. I found myself loving a character whose name was Spock. And as someone who was never really a “Star Trek” fan and who never really connected with any of the characters, it was the last thing in the world I ever expected.

Did he see the crap fest called Cloverfield?? Come on people, stop stroking egos. Look how long it has taken them to resolve Lost. The man’s a hack that got lucky. Only thing I see that he is good at is marketing.
