If you went to see “New Moon” at theaters this weekend, you weren’t alone.
The latest installment in the “Twilight” saga had the third-largest weekend opening of all-time with $140 million in ticket sales. The movie broke the single-day opening record set by “The Dark Knight” last year.
Of course, this means we’ll see a third installment hitting theaters in the near future.
And while critics panned the film, some fans say that the expanded Oscar category for best picture bodes well that the latest installment should get an Academy Award nomination for best picture.
“They always give the [nominations] to the boring movies,” said Vanesa Reyes, who said she and her friends planned to see the movie four or five times over its first weekend. “Let’s give young people a chance to win some Oscars. It’s time for a change.”
Kim Cawthorne argued such a change has been building for a while. “If ‘Twilight’ got all this publicity for winning awards at the MTV Movie Awards and other awards shows, then obviously ‘New Moon’ is going to get it,” she said, clutching an Edward Cullen pillow she’d just purchased. “I think all of the movies are going to keep getting it in the years to come.”
In second place was another new movie, “The Blind Side.” It took in $34.1 million. Third place went to “2012” with “Planet 51” and “Disney’s Christmas Carol” rounding out the top five.

Actually, the third movie production for Twilight’s Eclipse already wrapped filming and is due out next summer. That was already pre-determined. This news just means they will be starting to work on turning the fourth book into a movie also.
Vanessa and Kim should be immediately sterilized, for the good of the species.
I need to check the Book of Revelation. Is this the sixth or seventh seal?
