“Modern Warfare” Sells 4.7 Million Units

“Modern Warfare” Sells 4.7 Million Units

November 12, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

modern_warfareThe new video game “Call of Duty 2: Modern Warfare” has exploded onto the scene, selling 4.7 million copies in the United States and the United Kingdom on  its first day, according to Variety.

In terms of dollars and cents, the 4.7 million copies sold translates out to be about $310 million for gamemaker Activision/Blizzard.

The strong performance for “Modern Warfare 2,” released Tuesday, should provide the videogame industry with a much needed boost as it heads into the holiday season, given that the overall biz is down for the year.

Activision wanted to make the game one of the largest luanches in history and it appears from early sales figures that it will succeed in the goal.

Analysts had predicted “Modern Warfare 2” to sell nearly 12 million units during all of October through December.
