Moffatt Promises Smith “Won’t Disappoint”

November 4, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV News

smith_doctor A lot of new “Doctor Who” fans are worried about where the series will go without David Tennant in the iconic role as the Doctor.

Tennant is leaving the series after three and a half seasons as the universe’s best known Time Lord. And while the actor says that he has his regrets about leaving “the best part in the world,” he knows that his successor is the right man for the role.

“I’m really excited for him,” Tennant said in an interview with Newsbeat. “But I remember how exciting it was starting out on this kind of a journey — and nerve-wracking and a bit overwhelming but just such a kick. So I’m jealous he’s [Matt Smith] going through that now but he’s brilliant and it couldn’t happen to a nicer chap.”

When Smith does take over next year, in-coming producer Steven Moffat says that fans “won’t be able to take [their] eyes off him.”

“He’s all the things you’d expect, including ancient”, Moffat said.

Moffat went on to say that he’s feeling the pressure of sustaining the show once current producer Russell T. Davies is gone for good.

You do feel [the] pressure,” Moffat said. “What if I broke Doctor Who? That would be a tragedy.”

The good news is that “Doctor Who” has seen changes at producer and star before and weathered them both.

I’ve got a really bad feeling about this…

While I’m going to miss Tennant’s Doctor, I trust that Moffat and co. have hired good actors to carry on the series. The Moff is a huge Who fanboy and the writer of many of the reincarnation’s best episodes. He lived through the JNT years. He won’t mess it up.

I hate to see him go unless this guy is MUCH better. Do not care for the Hair in this picture though :( I am ever hopeful as a true WHO fan.

I have seen every “Doctor” in my lifetime and I always feel a little pang of anxiety at the change but you will learn to move on…and enjoy because…he is “The Doctor”.

This has been going on for years. I am getting tired of all these newbie fans freaking out every time the Doctor regenerates. It isn’t the first time. Out of all the Doctors there was really only one I didn’t care for and that a pretty good success record as far as I am concerned. You’d think this being round number three for even newer fans that they’d be used to it by now.
