Abrams Considers Putting Shatner in Next “Trek”

Abrams Considers Putting Shatner in Next “Trek”

October 29, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 8 Comments

kirk_oldschoolIt looks like we may get to see William Shatner in the rebooted “Star Trek” universe after all.

After not appearing in this summer’s blockbuster reboot, it appears that director J.J. Abrams is seriously considering a cameo by the original actor to bring James T. Kirk to life in the next installment.

The West Australian reports that J.J. Abrams is considering including Shatner in the sequel to his widely loved and successful Star Trek reboot. “I would love to work with him,” Abrams said at a press conference. “It was a foregone conclusion we wanted him in [Star Trek]. The problem was his character died on screen in one of his Trek films and we decided that we wanted to adhere to Trek canon.” Abrams further said that he felt they had more of an opening with the sequel to find a manner in which to reintroduce the older Captain Kirk.

The paper reports that Abrams and Shatner will meet over to dinner to discuss the possiblity.

You know I really hope this dosen’t happen, I love Shatner as Kirk but I think they should let the new movies be their own thing now and not get bogged down with cameos from past Trek actors.

I think they should have him play his own father, or an Admiral, although the Klingon idea is good too. Or even let him play a new villian! They’ll probably do an alternate universe thing again, but it’s been overdone.

Well, in the Abramsverse, they haven’t done The Voyage Home yet, right? Shatner could easily play either George or Gracie, and they wouldn’t even need makeup, just a big pool.

valerie: Kirk’s father dies at the beginning of the new movie. For this and because Shatner’s advanced age, he would have to be Grandpa Kirk. Unless of course somewhere in the Star Trek canon they already bumped him off too.

Kirk is still in the Nexus the one that ‘died’ in generations was an echo (whatever that means) of himself. Maybe Kirk figured out a way to get out of the Nexus come and save Spock prime and take them both back to the prime universe..

    I think it could work.

Guys, I smell another time-travel scenario coming… Future Abrams Kirk travels back to help young Abrams Kirk.

    Please no more time travel!!!
