Souders Weighs In on Clark and Chloe

October 27, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV News

clarkchloeAfter nine seasons, fans are still wondering if Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan might ever get together romantically on the CW’s “Smallville.”

For the first several years, Clark only had eyes for Lana Lang.  Then Lois Lane entered the picture and while fans of the Man of Steel may know that the Clark and Lois eventually end up together in the comic book mythology, that doesn’t mean that it has to end that way on “Smallville.”

“I hate saying never because it’s Smallville,” producer Kelly Souders tells TV Guide On-Line when pressed about the question. “But this year, fans will see that both of them have maybe moved on to people who are strangely more suited for each other.”

Souders says Chloe and Clark’s individual character development has created some basic differences between them.

“When you think of a guy who has just walked through life and had all the power in the world — even though he’s had troubles, it’s not such a challenge for him in some ways,” Souders says. “Chloe is somebody who’s had a lot of trauma in her life and has done an amazing job of pulling herself up by her bootstraps. But it gives both of them a very different outlook on life. In some ways, they were much more similar when they were younger [and] were more naïve about the world. They’ve both grown up a lot and Chloe has really come into her own, just as Clark has.”

Fans of the show may be concerned that before Chloe and Clark could become romantically entangled, their long-time friendship would have to get back on track. The current run of episode has seen the two’s friendship strained a bit.

However, Souders says that as the season progresses, the team of Clark and Chloe will get back together.

“Their friendship will start blossoming again and they will come back together,” Souders says.

“Smallville” airs Friday nights on the CW.
