Harris: Sookie Stackhouse Novels To End

October 26, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: Book News

The end is near for Sookie Stackhouse–at least for the series of novels about her exploits.

The best-selling series by Charlaine Harris could come to an end after the next three novels are published.

Harris made the announcement while promoting a new collection of short stories about Stackhouse and company.

“I’ve signed a contract to write three more after the one that’s coming out in May, and they may be the last three,” Harris told CNN. “Probably by then I will have lived with Sookie long enough.”

Harris said she doesn’t want to keep the books going if Sookie’s stories start feeling played out. “I hope I have enough sense to walk away before that happens.”

If Harris follows through on the current plan, the series would end at a dozen books.

The novels were the basis for HBO’s critically lauded series, “True Blood.”

Part of me is thinking it’s better to go out while you’re still on top (and she most certainly is at the top of her game). The other part of me is thinking “Couldn’t she just write another 20 or 30 books in the series first?”

I love these books to death but I would be happy to see her pull up at 13 (it will be 13 btw, not 12 - her contract is for three more after book 10).

That gives us four more books which is plenty of time for her to get the HELL rid of Bill, make Eric King of LA, get rid of this stupid blood bond that makes everything so messy and confusing and give Sookie and Eric their happily ever after :D

I haven’t watched season 2 because I got bored (well, I did watch season 1), but when I saw how good looking and effective (villain) eric northman was in the last few episodes, I’m beginning to like it again. I’m quite frustrated though, I don’t like him ending up as a villain in True Blood. He should be the “real better half” of sookie stackhouse, because he can very well defend her and they make a good pair. He has this stubborn attitude yet, so attractive, I can’t even imagine hating him, or sookie for that matter.

Anyway, yes I think Harris should end the novels, and 13 novels is a good idea. I hope eric is the real lover, husband of the heroine both in the television and novels. His great appeal is what attaracts the viewers and the readers. Eric, your gorgeous!

I agree… they need to come to an end eventually. It better not be a twilight ending either where everything is summed up in one book way too quickly. It should start settling out and I’m still holding onto the idea that Eric is the real lover too! I love Eric and Sookie and it is obvious there is a build up of tension between the two through the whole series. I can’t wait to see what happens or if Sookie ever turns!
