Duchovny Wants New “X-Files” Movie in 2012
Actor David Duchovny says he’s ready to go back into the FBI basement and pursue the truth with a third “X-Files” movie.
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy,” Duchovny tells MTV News. “I think it’s natural for ‘The X-Files’ to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
Duchovny says that the year would be an appropriate one for a new “Files” movie because of the predictions of Nostradamus and the Mayan civilizations.
Fans may also recall that 2012 was a significant date in the series’ long term mythology. According to the mythology, the alien invasion was supposed to happen in 2012.

If they make another movie, this is what it should be about. They made a mistake when they made the last movie with a stand-alone story. I thought the movie was good, but they should have continued the alien conspiracy story instead.
When it comes to an XF movie, you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
If you tell a stand-alone story, you irritate the fans who like the mythology stuff.
If you tell a mythology story, you risk alienating the audience who wasn’t invested in that or tuned out after season seven or so…
It’s a no win, really.
Two thoughts:
Why?
And couldn’t you find a better pic of Duchovny?
December 22, 2012 is supposed to be when the alien colonization occurs, so it makes sense that they would take advantage of that and make a movie about it.
Interesting timing on this! There’s a big “Celebration of The X-Files” event on November 14 with Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, Frank Spotnitz and Rob Bowman. Someone should ask the creative team directly about the rumors.
Hmmm…. sounds like Mr D’s contracts are running out late 2011. If they do get back to the heart of the Xfiles next time around they’d better do a better job than the last piece of drivel.
I love everything X-Files, and that is a GREAT pic of David! If we all have to still be here in 2012, then a new X Files movie will be at least a consolation!
So DD wants a another X-Files paycheck, I mean movie. Yea, and I want a date with Tricia Helfer. I Want to Believe did $20 mil in the US box office and another $47 in the foreign market. Not exactly block buster numbers; in fact, it was considered a box office bomb.
Yeah, but the franchise isn’t a bomb. I think if they get a really good script, one that aligns itself with the heart of the series, they might have a chance.
