Spike Jonze’s much-anticipated big-screen version of the beloved children’s book, “Where the Wild Things Are” hit theaters this weekend and took home the box-office crown. The film took in $32.5 million in its opening weekend.
In second was another debut movie, “Law Abiding Citizen” with $21.3 million.
Third place went to Paramount’s wide release of “Paranormal Activities.” The film took in just over $20 million in its wide release.
Fourth place was held by last week’s top money maker, “Couples Retreat.” Fifth place went to the debut of the remade “The Stepfather.”
