Ross Will Direct "Venom"

The Venom spin-off movie appears to be gaining some momentum.

A couple of weeks ago, we brought you news that the script was being given a second polish.

Now comes news that Columbia has selected a director for the film.  It’s Gary Ross, the director of “SeaBiscuit.”  He’s also the script writer for the upcoming “Spider-Man 4″ and it’s possible he may take a crack at rewriting the “Venom” script.

According to Variety, the casting for the role of Eddie Brock aka Venom isn’t a slam dunk for Topher Grace, who played the role in “Spidey 3.”  Columbia may be looking at other actors for the role, though it’s not been ruled out that Grace can and would return.

Also, it appears that Venom will be toned down a bit in terms of his villainy for the upcoming film.  Venom will be an anti-hero in the film, paralleling his development in the Marvel Comics spin-off series that followed the character.
