McGann Isn't Hopeful About Playing the Doctor Again

“Doctor Who” fans hoping for a reunion of all the living Doctors for this year’s Children in Need special will be disappointed to hear the following news.

Actor Paul McGann, who played the eighth Doctor in the 1996 television movie has recently said that he has serious doubts he will ever reprise the role of the Doctor again.

“It’s highly unlikely, because since I walked off that set in 1996, no one’s ever called me, I’ve never met these people, I’ve never been down to Cardiff and met what’s his face, Russell T Davies (who masterminded Doctor Who’s revival),” McGann says.

He added: “So no, maybe haven’t they got my number. There’s always rumours, it’s nice to stoke the fire. I’m always hearing them.”

McGann has reprised the role for the Big Finish audio dramas.

I'd love to see him playing the Doc onscreen again. I hold out hope.

That's too bad because I've always wanted a stand alone movie that presumably shows McGann's Doctor at the end of the Time War and then because of those events he re-generates into Christopher Eccleston. That kind of movie would be a triple threat for me. One, I get to see Paul McGann again and Christopher Eccleston then we would get to see a big of the actual Time War.

I think that's just a fantasy of mine, one that will probably not come true. Though I would hope TPTB would consider doing a Doctors reunion they way have before but different.

Jayson, I feel the exact same way. If they were ever to do a movie, that would be the one to make. It would be a great way to connect to the old series/1996 movie. And they'd actually be able to SHOW the Time War instead of just referring to it.
