Most fans know that series creator Eric Kripke has a five-year story arc and plan for his hit series, “Supernatural.”
Now with the show entering its fifth season and rumors abounding about its future, Kripke says he won’t shy away from giving fans the “big bang” ending he’s promised all along.
“I did set out [to] tell a five-season storyline,” he tells EW’s Michael Ausiello. “Quite frankly, I never expected [the show] to make it to five years. But now that we’re in our fifth year, I have every intention of ending the story with a bang and not drawing it out or watering it down.”
“That having been said,” Kripke continues, “I’m looking at this season as the last chapter in this particular story. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a new story. Buffy did it. The X-Files did it. You close a chapter on a big mythology storyline and then you begin a new one.
“One of the things I like about this show is we don’t draw out mysteries endlessly,” he adds. “We’ll answer a bunch of questions this season and then pose some new ones next season.”
Of course, that assumes the CW will give the series a sixth season. The network hasn’t picked up the series for a fifth year, but has expressed some interest in keeping the series around should it continue to be successful. Actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester are contracted for seven seasons should the network decide to continue the show after season five. The big question is whether or not Kripke would return. His contract expires this year.
