If you thought Zachary Quinto’s villain Sylar was gone from the “Heroes” universe, think again.
At the end of last season, Matt Parkman used his pyshic power to vanquish Sylar, leaving Nathan Patrelli in control of Sylar’s body. The villain had morphed into Nathan and taken his place.
Apparently Sylar was dead.
According to actor Greg Grunberg, Sylar is anything but dead. His body is still around and a part of him still exists inside Parkman’s head.
“When we come back in season four, you see that this transfer of brains or whatever didn’t go smoothly, and remnants of Sylar are left behind in me,” Grunberg tells SciFi Wire. “He’s in my subconscious and I can’t control him. Then he starts to control me, which is very, very cool.”
And it appears that Sylar isn’t happy about it, going to great lengths to get his body and existence back, including kidnapping Parkman’s child. Apparently, Sylar will also play mind games with Parkman inside his mind at the same time.
If it sounds a bit confusing, Grunberg insists that it isn’t and that “Heroes” will be back to form this season.
“It’s very easy to follow, actually, my storyline,” Grunberg said. “It’s cool how it’s done. I love it because it’s more character-based. The show became all about saving the world, and it’s very abstract. It’s kind of hard to grasp that. What does that mean? It’s very spectacular, and it’s fun, but then if you do it every week, it doesn’t mean anything. And if everybody has powers, it doesn’t mean anything. So this year it’s kind of getting back to season one, where it’s all about the characters just wanting to be real and normal. I don’t want this power, I don’t use it, and I’m forced to use it because Sylar’s doing anything [he can].”
Grunberg says he likes the storyline and playing off of Quinto. He says if it were up to him, this storyline would never end.
“I went to the writers, I was talking to them tonight, and I was like, ‘Guys, please don’t end this. Don’t resolve this, because we’re having so much fun.’ What’s cool is that my powers evolve, and I start this year so regretting what I did last year that I have absolutely cut it cold turkey.” he said. “I refuse to use my powers, and Sylar wants me to, so he’s constantly on my shoulder going, ‘Use your powers, you p-ssy.’ It’s great. It’s really cool.”
I guess if the whole villain inside someone’s head worked for “Farscape” and “Battlestar Galactica,” it should work for “Heroes.”
“Heroes” returns in September.

I have a way out! Someone shoots Parkman in the head, and we get rid of two problems at once!

I have a better way out, cancel this show!

Put Heroes out of its misery. I want to just remember season one when it was still great.

Like a lot of shows before it, the first chapter showed the promise of something great. It acheived that in part, but chapters 2, 3, and 4 were all attempts to regain that glory, rather than build on it. Sad, but not all stories have happy endings.
Then again, I am one of the few that thought that Buffy should have ended at season 5 with her death. Shocking and wonderful at the same time.

“leaving Nathan Patrelli in control of Sylar’s body” That’s not what happened, they erased Sylar and over-write him with everything Sylar new about Nathan from his object empathy, shape shifting and whatever else. The story should be about the erased Sylar trying to re-assert himself though I don’t see why he would be in Parkman’s head. But it is Heroes. I loved how last season ended but this next direction with Parkman/Sylar doesn’t have me interested.

Boycott Heroes so it dies a quick death. Bring back Chuck!
