Some would say that Erica Cerra, who plays Deputy Jo Lupo on SyFy’s “Eureka” is a goddess. (Certainly the character of Douglas Fargo would agree with that).
But Cerra will step into the shoes of a goddess for the upcoming big-screen adaptation of “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,” reports SciFi Wire.
Cerra will play Hera, the goddess of marriage and wife of Zeus, the god of lightning. The cast of the upcoming film, directed by Christopher Columbus, includes Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Catherine Keener, Melina Kanakaredes, Steve Coogan and Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson.
“We were wearing these absolutely stunning silk dresses, myself and the rest of the goddesses,” Cerra said. “The wardrobe is spectacular. The look of them, it’s a similar idea to Roman togas. They’re really elegant and lovely. A lot of our jewelry was made the way they made jewelry in the early Greek times. They’d take metal and hammer it out. It was spectacular. And it all cost a fortune. I was like, ‘Can I take this [dress] home?’ And they weren’t having it. They were like, ‘No.’ I think we all tried.”
Cerra said she is a big fantasy fan and enjoyed the novels of the “Percy Jackson” series as well as the “Harry Potter” novels.
“I was absolutely thrilled when I got a role, and then I was sitting in a room with Sean Bean and Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes, who plays Athena. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m a very big fan of Chris Columbus, so that was really cool as well. In the novels, in the other stories, Hera and Zeus show up to help Percy, so hopefully they will also in the [sequel] scripts,” she said.
